Ultra® AR1 Perennial Ryegrass Bare

Ultra is an Enhanced® diploid perennial ryegrass that has meadow fescue in its breeding. It combines the high production levels of perennial ryegrass with the high feed quality attributes of a meadow fescue. It contains AR1 endophyte that provides some protection against insect pests while being safe for stock.
Benefits of Ultra® AR1 Perennial Ryegrass Bare
- Late heading (+20 days) means pasture quality can be maintained longer into spring.
- Contains AR1 endophyte – protection against Argentine stem weevil and pasture mealybug.
- Produces high quality pasture through its perennial ryegrass and meadow fescue breeding.
- Suitable for all farm types and stock.
- Sowing rate: 18-20kg/ha in pasture mixes with 3-4kg of clover, plus 2-4kg herbs (chicory and/or plantain) if desired
- Sowing dates: Autumn and spring
- Persistence: 5+ years (subject to climate, insect pest pressure and management)
- Heading Date: +20 days
- Ploidy: Diploid
- Insect tolerance: Good
- Winter Activity: High
AR1 protects plants from Argentine Stem Weevil and Pasture Mealy Bug with a limited defence against Black Beetle and no protection against Root Aphid, Porina, and Grass Grub.
AR1 is discouraged for use in the upper North Island due to its susceptibility to Black Beetle invasions, which could lead to the destruction of all ryegrass.
